FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Peet’s Coffee & Tea Uptown has collaborated with Organic Soup Kitchen of Santa Barbara, California to provide GAIA Organic Blend coffees in Organic Soup Kitchen’s ongoing “feeding community” effort.

On March 21st, Peet’s donated the coffee for Organic Soup Kitchen’s Sunday brunch, which is currently held at the Veteran’s Memorial Building from 8-11am. They plan to donate each Sunday as well as special events, like the upcoming Easter Feast which will take place April 4th.

Organic Soup Kitchen serves approximately 300 homeless individuals and families in need every Sunday. On this Sunday, as the vibrant, juicy, complex richness of Peet’s coffee wafted through the cafeteria, a freshly made, organic vegetable soup and a Shepherd’s Pie were served, along with breads and baked goods, courtesy of Whole Foods Market.

GAIA Organic Blend coffees follow the cycle of the seasons, incorporating exceptional crops of certified organic coffee from Central America, East Africa, and the Pacific as they are harvested throughout the year.

Assistant Manager of the Uptown store, Erin Conaway, says “At Peet’s Coffee & Tea, our passion for quality coffee and products also means a commitment to our social responsibilities. By working with the Organic Soup Kitchen in Santa Barbara, we create a stronger and better community.”

Peet’s Coffee & Tea promotes quality and sustainability from source to cup. Their Focused Philanthropy program supports organizations and programs that educate growers on improving their coffee quality—as well as furthering their quality of life.  For more information on Peet’s Focused Philanthropy Program, visit their website: http://www.peets.com/

Organic Soup Kitchen is Santa Barbara's non-profit organization that believes no persons, regardless of financial status, shall compromise the quality of food they feed themselves or their families.

Santa Barbara has thousands of homeless individuals, as the downturn in the economy has forced many, particularly women and children, out of their homes and onto the streets. A growing number of working poor are also forced to live in cars, trucks, or campers.

Organic Soup Kitchen operates on 100% donations, and plans to develop a mobile organic food delivery service to expand their outreach program.

In addition, they are searching for a permanent location, and ask for community assistance and support.
